Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has had a variety of dark and foreboding cover designs over the two centuries since its first publication. This cover design stands out from others with its sterile, white background. The flowers erupting from the bisected head allude to themes of life from death and beauty from that which is often deemed ugly. A lone stalk of foxglove, a poisonous plant with medicinal properties, graces the back cover.
ACC Portfolio Show
In Fall 2017, Austin Community College graphic design portfolio students were given the opportunity to compete against one another to design the theme of their portfolio show. This winning design was inspired by the 1966 cover of Newsweek magazine by Roy Lichtenstein and the recent resurgence of comic book culture in the United States.
Deudos/Death Debt: The Art of Eduardo Lalo is collection of photographs addressing the increasing vulnerabilities and anxieties of Puerto Ricans affected by the territory's debt crisis. The design utilizes muted colors and a mortuary-inspired main title to emphasize the exhibition's theme. Materials for both the exhibition and its promotion are presented.
Publications Design — Responsibility Report and Consumer Mailer
LEGO has a strong commitment to social responsibility and outreach. Excerpts from their annual report are presented to inform consumers of the LEGO's core values and commitment to children. Additionally, a foldout mailer highlights LEGO trains and community groups for consumers purchasing train sets through the LEGO Shop.

Pie & Mighty is a fictional bakery and cafe specializing in freshly baked sweet and savory pies. The concept is a modern take on the nostalgia of 1950s diners and grandma's kitchen. Coordinating patterns were developed to represent both sweet and savory flavors, while a soft green gingham hints at lattice pie crusts.
Publications Design — Magazine
AFAR is an award-winning travel magazine noted for its innovative design. These concept designs seek to better highlight the differences between advertisements and articles by improving whitespace and standardizing body copy and byline styles, while embracing the publication's use of handwritten titles.
Mapleton's is a fictional maker of small-batch, spiced maple syrups. The simple bottles are reminiscent of Victorian-era home remedy and medicinal packaging. This distinctive packaging improves shelf presence, distinguishing the brand from competitors. The pearlized labels and metallic foil accents lend an air of elegance to the product.
Logo Design and Branding
Aquatek is a small business specializing in freshwater and saltwater fish, aquarium supplies, and professional tank maintenance. The company logo and website are redesigned to draw in new customers, particularly families. Bright colors and a clown fish mascot reminiscent of Nemo are utilized to appeal to children, spawning a new generation of aquarium enthusiasts.
Trojan is one of the most trusted condom brands in the United States. Here their packaging is modernized with a sleek new design and an outer sleeve concept is introduced. Once the outer sleeve is discarded, a boldly printed interior box is revealed that can be tucked away or left on a bedside table.
